Teaching Manifesto
Educational Philosophy
These I believe statements are statements that I will use to guide my teaching practice. I will continue to alter my thoughts about my teaching as I experience and learn new things. With every class I will teach they will adjust my teaching practices and strategies. My teaching philosophy with continue to grow and develop as I become more experienced in the education field.

Pre-Internship
Pre-Internship Reflection
My pre-internship took place in a grade 1/2 classroom at Holy Rosary Catholic School. This school is quite small with very few teachers and support staff. The experience was fantastic. On the first day we were welcomed with open arms. The school has a library and lunch program which is great to have in a small school like this one. Our co-operating teacher is very helpful and encouraging. She is willing to answer any questions we have about anything! Each week she either gives us a topic or helps us come up with topic we would like to teach. She is open to letting us try pretty much anything. Our co-operating teacher also gives us great feedback to improve our teaching strategies and lesson plans. I have loved bring in her classroom!
The teaching experience has been very educational. For the first few weeks Miss.Dayman and myself taught our lesson together. Then we starting creating and teaching one lesson a week individually. These teaching experiences have made me realize this is the right career for me because when I am teaching I feel so comfortable. I also enjoy watching our co-operating teacher and Miss.Dayman teach because it is learning experience on it's own. I have learned so many useful things from this experience.
The student in our class stole my heart the very first day in the classroom. They all are unique in their own way which makes it so interesting to communicate and get to know them. The students enjoy having us visit once a week and can not wait to see what we have planned for them. The students are what makes me most excited to go to the school each week!
Overall I have loved going to my pre-intern placement once a week, and cant wait to get to this classroom again in March to my 3 week block.

Planning
Week 1:
The first week in the classroom we were mostly observing what happens in their classroom, such as routines and expectations. We observed the students and our co-operating teacher. We got to know the students as well as we could throughout the day. We did a get to know you activity with the students. We learned so much about them from their work and discussions!

Differentiation: Adaptive Dimension in Practice
Learning environment:
The learning environment of a classroom should feel welcoming. All individuals should feel like comfortable and confident in the learning environment. The learning environment doesn't just have to be the room within the school. Learning can take place in a variety of places such as outdoors, in the community or on a field trip. The learning in all of these places should be engaging. The attitudes in the space where learning is taking place should be positive and encouraging. Students and educators should work together to make the best possible learning environment for all learners. My learning environment will include all of these characteristics.

Instruction:
- Direct instruction - This is when the teacher facilitates the instruction. This could include lectures, questioning, demonstrations. It is useful for giving students informations or step by step instruction (Literacy Basics, 2013).
- Indirect instruction - This is student driven learning, with teachers just helping where needed. The learners are very involved in this type of learning. It includes student observation or investigating. This can be achieved with learning tasks such as case studies, reflective discussion, and concept mapping (Literacy Basics, 2013).
- Experiential learning - This focuses on learners doing an activity. Learners do an activity and them reflect on what they have done (Literacy Basics, 2013).
- Independent study - The students do their own learning with help from the teacher. Examples include research, essay writing, or journals (Literacy Basics, 2013). This could be used with older students who do not need much guidance.
- Interactive instruction - This is when students and/or teachers interact with each other to learn together. Interactive instruction could include role play, brainstorming, discussion, or cooperative learning (Literacy Basics, 2013).
Assessment:
There are many ways to assess a students learning. These ways of assessment are the most commonly used in the classroom.
Resources:
I have so many resources to help plan and learn about a variety of topics. My resources tab is categorized by subject areas. Treaty education is under "Social Studies Resources" because I thought that's where it fits best, but I will use Indigenous Ways of Knowing throughout all subject areas. Check out the resources I have collected over the years!

There are many ways to assess a students learning. These ways of assessment are the most commonly used in the classroom.
- Assessment for learning – Phonemic Aware assessment, this is to inform teachers and parents where the specific student is at with read. This is also used to put students in groups of level alike read skill for things such as guided reading (Saskatchewan Reads, 2015).
- Assessment as learning – it is student driven with teacher guidance. This allows students to so a self check on their reading. It will help them choose books that are appropriate for their reading level (Saskatchewan Reads, 2015).
- Assessment of Learning - involves teaches evidence on reading. This would be like testing students at the end of a testing period. The level they are at gets tested to see if they move up a level or stay at the same level (Saskatchewan Reads, 2015).

Treaty Education: Indigenous Knowledge & Perspectives
Treaty 4 Gathering:
There were so many great activities that we were able to explore! I would love to attend The Treaty 4 Gathering in person some day, but this virtual experience was very educational.
I explored:
-Treaty 4 Gathering plasticine tutorial
-Sara and Sheena Read- Speaker view
-Michael Lonechild Painting the Monarch Butterfly
-Pesto from the Patch: Harvesting, cooking, and reducing food waste
-Arrow Beading Tutorials
-Google Earth Virtual Treaty Walk of Downtown Regina
I loved this way of featuring all kinds of learning activities for all ages through the First Nations and Metis ways of knowing. I liked that I was able to participate in the ones of interest to me!
I am finding it hard to pick just one to highlight because I enjoyed them all!
I found the pesto making tutorial very cool because most of the ingredients were picked out of the garden and used. I learnt about how to use all parts of a carrot which I found neat because I usually do not use the carrot tops. It was a very simple recipe and minimal ingredients making it easy for anyone to make.
I also loved the art tutorials because I love crafting and making things. I definitely want to try beading to make a keychain. I think the plasticine tutorial would be super fun for an elementary class to follow. They would love playing and creating with the clay. This would make their learning so much fun!
